Register of certified TM teachers in the Netherlands

Towards the end of my studies in research psychology in Utrecht, in the early seventies, I came into contact with TM. Keith Wallace's research, published in Scientific American, on the drop in metabolism during TM, resulting in a rest deeper than sleep, convinced me to learn TM. In 1974 I trained as a TM teacher as a postgraduate study.

Since then I have taught TM to 1,300 people, in the Netherlands and New Zealand. Along the way I also took part in various peace projects in Thailand, the United States, India and South Africa.

I also trained in Ayurveda, Vedic astrology and Sanskrit, fields in which I give consultations and courses as well. I live in Lelystad, where I follow a yogic lifestyle in the unique meditation neighbourhood. I teach in the beautiful TM centre at Maasstraat 38, built according to Vedic principles, in both Dutch and English.

Maria Lieve was studying at Rhodes University in South Africa in 1976 when her psychology professor organised a presentation on Transcendental Meditation. Out of curiosity she started. It was pleasant to do, and she noticed she got through her studies more easily.

Like many beginners, she went through a period of not meditating. After moving to England, during a difficult phase in her life, she started meditating very consistently again. The effect was immediate: she was more herself and took hold of life again with both hands. Soon afterwards she moved to the Sidhadorp in Lelystad, where within a year she learned the TM-Sidhi technique. In 1990 she became a TM teacher, after an intensive training of twice four months.

She has taught TM to hundreds of people, children and adults, in Dutch and in English. Her courses take place in the new TM centre at Maasstraat 38 in Lelystad, in the heart of the Sidhadorp, where after the course you can join the group meditations every day. Since 2022 she has been the teacher of the Advanced Techniques for the Netherlands and Flanders, and she now teaches only a limited number of basic courses a year.

I learned Transcendental Meditation on 1 February 1974. I was searching for the meaning of life. Three years later, in 1977, I trained as a TM teacher in Vittel.

As a clinical and research psychologist I have worked in the Netherlands and in the United States. In 1987 I received my doctorate for research on Transcendental Meditation. My 25 scientific publications, including research on TM for addiction and high blood pressure, are listed on ORCID. In 1992 I founded the telecom company Scarlet. That background shapes how I teach: I stick to what has been measured and leave out the rest.

I have been teaching in Amsterdam for eight years, in a city where TM has been taught for sixty years. In total I have taught the TM technique to more than 5,000 people, in India, Russia, Thailand and the Netherlands. People come to me with stress, with poor sleep, or because they are looking for a meditation technique that really works. I teach the course in Dutch and in English. I also chair Stichting Maharishi Vedisch Instituut, the organisation behind TM in the Netherlands.

I learned Transcendental Meditation when I was looking for a deeper understanding of life and of myself. Over the years, TM became an important part of my own life, and eventually inspired me to become a TM teacher.

My background is in engineering and technology, where I learned to appreciate clarity, practical thinking and evidence-based approaches. At the same time, I have always been deeply interested in consciousness, personal development and the connection between mind and body. This combination influences the way I teach: I like to explain things clearly and connect the meditation experience with everyday life.

Today I teach Transcendental Meditation in The Hague, a city where people from many different cultures and backgrounds come together. I meet people who are looking for more balance and calm, who experience stress or difficulties with sleep, or who simply want to discover a natural way to develop their full potential.

For me, teaching TM is about sharing a simple, practical technique that can become a valuable part of everyday life.

Jacques Huyghe leerde TM in 1978, toen hij student was. Hij woonde in een huis waar studenten samenleefden met mensen met een fysieke of mentale beperking. Een van hen begon te mediteren en werd zienderogen rustiger. Dat was genoeg.

Als ingenieur van de Universiteit Gent kreeg hij een beurs van de Rotary Club voor een jaar studie aan Maharishi International University. Hij promoveerde en werkte daarna 43 jaar in biomedisch wetenschappelijk onderzoek en onderwijs, aan de TU Eindhoven en de University of Limerick in Ierland, en als onderzoeker van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen. Een deel van dat onderzoek ging over de effecten van TM op hersengolven.

De TM-lerarenopleiding rondde hij in 1988 af in Seelisberg, Zwitserland. Sindsdien leerde hij meer dan duizend mensen mediteren. Zijn centrum in Vosselaar, bij Turnhout, won in 2013 de prijs 'Het Gat in de Markt' van KBC en is door Sport Vlaanderen erkend als yogaschool. Hij geeft ook cursussen in Eindhoven en Antwerpen, in het Nederlands, Frans en Engels.

I learned the TM technique on 1 March 1980. I was looking for a way to improve the quality of my life. I was surprised by the effect of TM and began to study the philosophy behind the technique: the science of consciousness.

Peace, harmony and meaning are very important to me in life, so I love teaching people the TM technique. Through this technique these qualities come alive in yourself and you gain insight into the meaning of life.

After secondary school I worked for fifteen years at several municipalities, and during that time I trained as a Middelbaar Bestuursambtenaar (municipal administrator). I have been a Transcendental Meditation teacher since 2008. I have taught several hundred people the TM technique and organised many TM information evenings and weekend retreats.

I prefer to work with small groups of one to five people, which leaves plenty of room for personal attention. I teach in Waalwijk, Tilburg and 's-Hertogenbosch, in Dutch.
