Four consecutive days: day one one-to-one with your teacher, then three group sessions.
Charles teaches the Transcendental Meditation course in Roermond and has been a certified TM teacher since 1973. In Charles's own words:
In early 1972, at a flower stall in Nijmegen, I saw a large poster announcing an introductory talk on Transcendental Meditation. Since I had been very interested in the development of human consciousness for some time, I went along. What was said there appealed to me greatly, and it was crystal clear to me that I had to do this. The very next day I told two of my colleagues about it. As a result, they took the TM course as well! Apparently the TM teacher in me was already there!
After practising TM for a few months I knew that I wanted to become a TM teacher myself. I decided to hand in my notice and leave for southern Spain for the training as a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. There I also met my future wife Elsa, and I knew at once that I wanted to share the rest of my life with her. Together we have three wonderful sons, and now also a delightful little grandson.
At the end of May 1973 the teacher training ended and I returned to the Netherlands to teach TM. Ever since, I have always been active as a TM teacher, both in teaching and in the organisation. Today my wife and I teach TM in the Arnhem, Nijmegen and Roermond regions. I have always found it wonderful and a great privilege to teach people TM, and I still experience it as the most important path to personal growth.
Elsa teaches the Transcendental Meditation course in Roermond and has been a certified TM teacher since 1973. In Elsa's own words:
Transcendental Meditation became part of my life 55 years ago. It started with my brother, who was very enthusiastic about it and was getting such good results that I decided to take the TM course on 13 November 1971. In the months that followed I noticed that my insecurity disappeared and that I felt safe. I began to enjoy life more and take on more, spontaneously stopped smoking, and at some point felt the wish to pass Transcendental Meditation on to others myself.
So I quit my job at the University Hospital in Groningen and in the spring of 1973 left for La Antilla in Spain, where I completed the TM teacher training in May. During that training I also met my future husband, Charles.
I first taught in Amsterdam and Groningen and later in Limburg, where Charles and I gave TM courses throughout the province. Over the years we had three wonderful sons, all three of whom meditate. And a grandson of eighteen months, whom we enjoy enormously. To this day we are still active, with great satisfaction, as Transcendental Meditation teachers in Roermond, Nijmegen and Arnhem, in Dutch and English.
For me the most beautiful part of teaching Transcendental Meditation is the moment a student has experienced transcending for the first time. To see that stillness and transformation is so wonderful, and it happens so completely effortlessly. As one of my students put it, with relief: “How lovely that I don't have to do anything for this!”
