Stichting Maharishi Vedisch Instituut

The Maharishi Foundation was established in 1959 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Created to promote the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique and safeguard the authenticity of its teaching, it has since grown into a global organisation with centres in over 100 countries.

Is TM a cult?

No. TM is a meditation technique, not a religious or spiritual movement. There are no beliefs, no membership and no obligations after the course. You learn a technique that you practise independently at home — twice a day for 20 minutes.

Not a religion

TM is compatible with any religion or worldview. The technique is practised by Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists and people without religious background. Nothing is asked to be believed.

No obligations

Dr. Tony Nader: Science and Wisdom United

At the helm of the global Transcendental Meditation organisation stands Dr. Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D. He embodies the unique synthesis of modern science and ancient Vedic wisdom that characterises the TM movement.

As the successor to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Dr. Nader leads the organisation with a vision deeply rooted in knowledge. His impressive academic background includes training as a physician at Harvard University and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also a globally recognised Vedic scholar.

Together with the David Lynch Foundation, the organisation offers programmes for firefighters, police officers, medical professionals and refugees. In Europe, EU-funded education projects use TM to reduce test anxiety in students and stress in teachers.
